About Toula – on hold
All About Me and My Unique Personality: Toula is energetic and ball obsessed but lacks the stamina of a younger dog. After a short play time she is happy to take it easy and relax. She’s well-mannered, house-trained, and eager to find a home that matches her spirited yet loving personality.
Toula comes desexed and is up to date with her vaccinations.
My Ideal Home: Toula's ideal home would be with her one on one dog experienced and confident companion. She is typical of her breed with the staffy exuberance and loyalty to her human and the hunting dog's agility and keen to please her master.
Toula's behaviour, in the absence of her partner Tank, has escalated in terms of dog reactivity. Our volunteer foster carers have dogs so Toula has spent the past 4 months in boarding kennels with our friends at the Hunter Dog Centre. In that time she has received no adoption interest.
Toula needs a confident and experienced FOSTER CARER with no other dogs and/or an ADOPTION placement.
If you would like to give this senior girl a safe and secure home, or foster her with a view to adopt, then please contact us.
What is Known About My Background: With her owner incarcerated, Toula, her partner Tank and their pup Terry were dumped at Ash Island in mid Sept 2024 by someone who was supposed to be caring for them. With the help of the public, the three were secured by the Ranger and taken to Council's shelter.
Council staff arrived one morning to find Toula in her kennel with a litter of new born pups. She had arrived in such poor condition that no one suspected she was pregnant. Tank and Terry were rehomed with the assistance of other rescue groups and Toula came into foster care with Hunter Animal Rescue.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets: Toula, Tank and Terry were bonded and played rough together.
Toula came into our care with her new litter of puppies while Tank and Terry were adopted separately interstate.
Since separation, Toula has been found to exhibit signs of reactivity towards strange dogs.
While our volunteers have commenced working on her reactivity to see if she would accept the company of another submissive calm walking companion after a lengthy period of exposure to that dog, it will take time and patience.
Toula currently exhibits a high prey drive and we will not be rehoming her to a family with cats or pocket pets.
Toula and her puppies were in care with a lovely family who had young children and she was very happy and exuberant.
