Updated 02/10/08

Due to Monday's horrible raining weather Mattara has rescheduled 'Pets in the Park'

Thankyou to all who braved the rain with us on Monday's Pets on the Park to support us!

If it isn't raining this Friday we will again be setting up the HAR stall on the foreshore at Newcastle for the Mattara Festival

Trev is all scrubbed up and ready to go- are you?

Help support HAR by purchasing  goodies from our stall on the day and meet some of our many carers and foster dogs. Bring along your own pets and enjoy the day encountering the reptile show or petting farm, enter your own pet in the fashion competition and  browse the many other pet stalls and activities and have a great family day out in the Newcastle sun.

Zoey - Staffy x, 2 yrs, F

Zoey has a brindle coat so, for want of a breed listing, she is a staffy x, that said there is very little staffy there. She is a sweet girl very pretty. She has just finished raising her own puppies and also a litter of orphans that she adopted.

Extremely timid when she came into care but improving everyday, she now actively seeks attention. Zoey has not been tested with other dogs due to the puppies but we think she would prefer to be an only dog.

JOSIE -Staffy X Ridgy?, F (5 months @ 23.8.08)

My brother Tiger was rehomed last week and I miss him so much.. We've fought this hard battle together.. and now I'm on my own. But I'll be okay because I know there is a loving family out there for me somewhere! I do get very attached to my human companions and I long to be with a family I can snuggle up next to! I sleep outside in the shed with my foster sister but I could get used to sleeping inside if my new family let me! I am good with other dogs but do get very anxious when meeting new dogs.. give me some time and I won't be as scared.. I am working on my toilet training when in the house but I spend most of my time outside when my foster mum is at work. I haven't had any accidents in the house yet so fingers crossed I can keep up the good work.

I am good around children but, very small children are a little overwhelming if they make those strange squealing noises at me.. Otherwise I love the attention!  I would prefer to go to a home where there is another dog to buddy up with or a home where my new family has time for me. I love my walks, but am not very good in the car.. it makes my belly feel funny but i guess in time i will get used to it. I don't know how to play with toys yet.. I prefer my chew toys and bones.

Please come meet me! My foster mum is in the Newcastle region and would be happy to make a playdate.

Other pups from the same litter -  Jess, Molly

Barney (12month staffy x, M )
Barney is a smallish medium sized dog and loves company! He is very eager to please and cuddle up next to you at any chance. If you are out in the yard with him he will try his best to have at least one part of his body touching you- whether it be sitting on your foot or just leaning against you if you are sitting down very subtly of course! In his short time in care he has already learnt to sit, lay down, walk on a leash and play at the doggie beach. We are working on the stay command but he gets very excited. hehe.. Barney is a very intelligent dog who just needs to know that he will be with someone for the rest of his life.. Barney will need to be with a person/family who can shower him with lots of love and attention! He would love to be an only dog but so far seems to get along with other dogs as long as they are much smaller or much larger than him!

One day, Barney was barking and barking, so I thought to ignore him because I thought he was being naughty! I finally came outside to see what the commotion was about and there he was trying to alert me that a small kookaburra's nest had fallen out of the tree with two little chicks inside! He didn't even try to eat them.. He was very proud. Barney is overall a big softie who is waiting patiently to call a home his own forever!

BEAU - M, Sheltie x, 3 yrs

Beau would be best rehomed with another dog- a female to keep him company.

He is real sweety but needs a companion. Beau feels very strongly that he should be with you whenever possible, basically a very devoted boy to who he attaches himself to.

 INDIANA - Doberman x, M, 8 months DOB 3-1-08

Indy, He's such a lovely boy. He gets on well with the dogs, cats and kids. He would benefit from some extra training as he is still a little jumpy. Besides that he's a fun loving pup. He walks pretty well with a harness (except when he's tired, then he lays down...lol) and loves playing with a ball. He enjoys running around with the other dogs too

DIGGER - Cattle, M, 2yrs

Digger is an exceptionally attractive-looking cattle dog - a nice balanced athletic shape, a handsome traditional-type head, a very pleasant expression and his colouring is a pretty blue merle with a lot of rich rusty red on his head.

He is young (23 months) and boisterous like all his breed, but clearly clever and willing to learn.
He likes children, preferably older ones. He comes reliably when called, even from a distance.
He adores swimming and is passionate about retrieving. He is a very loyal animal and an exceptionally pleasant one .

   INSTANT FAMILY- RHEA & MIA – 8 MTH OLD MASTIFF/GREAT DANE-X – SISTERS

These girls are lively and lovely, Rhea is the more mature and cautious of the two, while Mia bounces everywhere and acts first and thinks later….the 2 are great together, the cuddle up together in the same kennel each night and it would be nice to see them go to a home together if possible.  They love to run and would need a large yard with lots of open walks in bush or on a beach or would be well suited to an acreage/farm.  They are great with kids (tested with 10-15yr olds), great with other dogs, and are just wonderful LARGE playful puppies.

MEET ME AT THE MATTARA PET DAY THIS MONDAY 6TH OCTOBER

"Shrek of the dog world."

TREVOR - large size cross breed- 18mths

Trevor is a large sized dog- he is very strong but he isn't 'huge' and the photos which have been on this page for so long unchanged have not done him justice- he is in fact just over knee height and nowhere near the size of a giant size breed. His female carer confidently takes him for long walks and he is very easily controllable just on a lead and collar. Trev did have many puppy traits (he was a puppy!) but getting closer to being 2 he has now calmed down, he still occasionally gets excited in a high energy environments but will just need owners who are consistent with their expectations of him.

For his size and not knowing his strength he would best suit going to a home where he is the only dog. Trevor is currently in foster care with a cat carer- and Trev is much more interested in watching paint dry than being interested in the foster cats and kittens which is homage to the gentle nature he has. He is also getting on well with his carers male dog.

Trev is "Shrek" of the dog world - he looks big and scary and is oblivious to his strength and underneath is a heart of gold just wanting love.  Trevor has lots of layers but he will be a most loyal companion to the person that decides to give him a home.

In the interests of finding our Trev a home at long last he is available for a a donation and still comes desexed, registered with current vaccination, heartworm, flea and worming control
and is still covered by the 2 week trial period.

Trevor is now in foster care in the Waratah area - to find out more about him or arrange to meet him contact Jennah on 0421697033 or email catcarers@hotmail.com

Trev has never been a 'barker' Yvonne and Marty have helped him out with some manners needed for his big size through obedience training. Thanks to their help he now walks very easily on a lead and is learning good manners such as not jumping up even though he is SO excited to see you.

Dogs marked ON TRIAL are on a two week trial period with new owners, and may return. If you are interested in pne of these dogs, please leave your details with the foster carer and they'll get back to you if the dog becomes available again.
