WELCOME

Hunter Animal Rescue is a charity run by volunteers who dedicate their time to finding new homes for abandoned pets facing euthanasia. Animals are kept in foster carer  homes, where they experience a good quality of life the carers get a good idea of a dog or cat's personality and suitability for different homes. Please understand that  everyone involved in this organisation is a volunteer. We all have jobs, families and usually a home/yard full of animals that need our attention too. It may take a little time to  return your call or update the website but we really do the best we can. Hunter Animal Rescue supports responsible pet ownership. We encourage all members of the public to   have their dogs and cats desexed before their first season. We look forward to the end of over breeding of companion animals and a time when there is no longer a need for us to rescue animals from the pounds.

      SPECIAL NEEDS

This little guy came into HAR's care on Thursday night. Has been through a lot but luckily he is tough!

He has a mouth full of untreated rotten teeth which were stopping him from eating without being in lots of pain.He has a lump of his chest. His back end was a solid knot which we had to hack with scissors as the fleas were unbelievable. Suprisingly this old boy didnt complain whilst I was cutting his hair and he handled eating some mushed up dog food roll, he was very impressed.

First thing Friday morning Hamilton Mobile Vet saw him to advise if he was going to be ok or not.

It was discovered he is about 7-8 years old, he needs to have all his teeth out a lump removed from his chest and all standard vet work will happen on Tuesday. Mobile Vet have even organised for a groomer to come in and give him a nice fresh start with a new hair-do.

We would like to find an older owner for this boy to to live the rest of his years with, he will have a little play with my other dogs but he is happiest relaxing on the lounge but im sure he will come out of his shell a bit more after this surgery and when he comes to trust his carers.

He is great with other dogs, walks on a leash and knows how to sit, he doesnt like being distrubed when he's having his nanna nap :)

We are trying to raise  $700 for this boy-which will pay for his vet work

      ASH - 4 months, DOB 13/10

This adorable little guy was born to Angel (large dogs page). Mum is on the small side of Medium and her breeding is a bit of a mystery....dad is unknown so the breed of the pups is an even bigger question mark BUT they are the sweetest, cuddliest most adorable pups! The boys like all the typical puppy stuff... a good play, fun toys, yummy food and big cuddles!

Duke - 19 months old   Jack Russel X Whippet

Ideal Home: One with lots of love. Needs pats and walks. Needs room to exercise. Would prefer another companion to play with.

Children: 6 years and older
A bit about me:  I have short hair so I am easy to take care of.  I am quiet and well behaved.  I am very affectionate and I wait for my food.  I like other dogs and love to play with them.  I can be a little boisterous when I get excited so I am only suitable for older kids.  If I have a walk every day I am quite happy to lay around and sleep and stay out of trouble.  I am a strong boy when walked however my new Halti collar is training me not to pull.

Romeo & Juliet

This lovely brother and sister pair were adopted as kittens, but returned to care in early December. Both are lovely cats who deserve a second chance at at loving forever home.

Yoshi is quite affectionate and friendly when you sit on the ground with him, but is not too sure of people when they are standing up and is very scared of loud noises etc . He is the more confident of the two, and does pick on his sister sometimes. He is not very fond of other cats and is happiest to just do his own thing and enjoy a pat every now and then. He doesn’t like to be picked up but it does love the scratching post and spends a lot of its time lounging around on it and sharpening its claws on it. They both love to sit on the veranda in the sun on their favourite chairs and soak up some rays...Both have faded their fur from black to brown on some parts of them because they spend so much time there. Would be perfect in a 1 cat household where he would be the centre of attention.

Juliet is the quieter of the two and is a very sweet, timid girl.  Although she has had a few weeks to settle into our home she still remains a little unsure of us humans and almost appears as though she may have been mistreated in the past. She will come to you if you sit on the floor, but her brother will often beat her to it, at which point she will just lie down and keep an eye on the situation from a distance.  She is quite wary of men and other animals.
I believe that with a bit of one-on-one time and a very special loving home this beautiful girl would flourish. She shows signs that she wants to be affectionate but is often over shadowed by her sibling. She enjoys the sun more than Yoshi and can be found every afternoon on her favourite chair.  She is okay with other cats and is not phased by my dog. Needs a patient loving new home to bring her out of her shell.

For more information on either Juliet or Yoshi please contact Rebecca on 0413506177 or send her an email

Become A Foster Carer, Volunteer or Member

Fostering is where instead of an animal being put-to-sleep when their allotted time is up at a pound, they get released to a home, until their forever home can be found.  Carers are all volunteers who provide food, shelter and most of all love while the search is on for it's forever home. Foster Carers are usually animal lovers who, for various reason, are unable to have another pet permanently. We are always in need of new foster carers, the more carers we have, the more animals that can be saved. If you are interested in becoming a carer please complete relevant online applications and we will contact you shortly.

All Volunteers must be members. All people who fill in a membership for will be notified of all volunteer opportunites.    All member will recieve our monthly E-Newsletter
