Animal Number: 10108
Name: Jarna - On Trial (20/8/10)
Breed: Shih Tzu / Maltese mix
Age: 10-12 weeks old
Suitable for children: Yes, Jarna would be suitable for gentle children only as she is so small.
A bit about me: Well, Jarna really was thrown in the deep end
when she came into care, having to mix it with 2 adult boxers and a
much larger kelpie cross puppy (Scarlett - see listing above). The first
few days she wouldn't go anywhere near them - now, well, lets just say,
she thinks she is a big dog! LOL She is quite an independent little
girl - she is happy when she is outside or inside and doesn't cry when
the others are out and she is in. In fact she rarely cries at all and is
really happy having other dogs around. She sleeps really well and goes
to the toilet on her wee mat 90% of the time. She is perfect in the car,
no sickness and she just sits there quitely not jumping around. She is
great off lead and just follows right behind your feet, never running in
front. She sits for her food and treats and is not a fussy eater at
all.
Ideal Home: Jarna would best be suited to another home with a
dog who is young enough to still want to play with her. She would be
better suited to being mainly an inside dog due to her long hair and
would require daily brushing and regular professional grooming /
clipping to keep her coat from matting. She would love a home who would
take her walking as she loves to just trail behind.
If you think you would be an appropriate home for Jarna, please submit an application form from the link below and email to Bre Any further questions you may have you can call Bre on 0423430471 after 4pm.

Animal Number: 10131
Name: Tora - On Trial (22/8/10)
Breed: Kelpie x Whippet - maybe
Age: 5 months old - DOB 1/3/10
Size: Medium and slim - won't be very big and tall. She will keep a thin figure (lucky girl).
Suitable for children: Yes, older children only (8 years old
plus). Tora is still a pup and gets very excited when around small
children, she thinks they are furry friends like her and wants to play
rough with them. In saying this though, Tora is learning to control her
excitement.
Ideal home: Tora would be best suited to a home with another
dog and no very young children. She will require daily exercise and
would love a home where she can be 100% part of the family and go on
trips to the dog beach and for runs and walks to the park and also some
inside time and cuddles. She will need daily exercise.
A bit about me: Hello, my name is Tora and I am a beautiful young lady full of love and happiness.
I've been in care since the beginning of August and I've learned so much
in a couple of weeks already. My foster mummy is very impressed with me
and my behaviour knowing I've been moved around a fair bit in my young
life.
- I don't dig in the yard,
- I don't chew (except my sticks)
- I don't escape (even when mummy left the gate open by mistake while gardening),
- I don't cry at night even knowing I'm locked in the shed,
- I bark only when I hear some weird noise
- I can sit and I also wait patiently for my dinner.
- And to top it all off, I'm totally toilet trained!
I'm also so much better on the lead compared to when I first arrived in
care, and I love going to the park to meet doggy pals and run and run
and run around, chase the birds etc.
I am really interested with the cats and wish I could play with them but they don't seem to like me much.
I wish there was another doggy friend here to keep me entertain and
amused during the day when mum and dad are at work. I hope that my
forever home will have one so I can have a new best mate. I am very
friendly with other dogs, doesn't matter that they are fluffy or
scruffy, big or small. I just love them all!
I don't play fetch very well though (oh well, can't be perfect hey!)
Food wise - I'm very happy with dry kibble only and I love ..... carrots
- I can play all day with a carrot and love its taste! I won't say no
to chicken necks though (mummy hides them in the yard as snacks for me
during the day. She is super cool!)
That's pretty much all you need to know about me so if you want someone
to greet you with a smile everyday, if you like going to the parks or on
walks, if you want a furry mate that will love you for the rest of your
life and who is absolutely perfect, come and check me out...

Animal Number: 10083
Animal Name: Toby Edward - On Trial (11/7/10)
Breed: Shih-Tzu x Pekingese ?
Age: 8 years old
Size: Small - approx. 5-6kg
Suitable for children: Older children only.
A bit about me: Toby has really come out of his shell! He
used to only like plodding around and playing with his own toys but the
last few weeks his true personality is shining through. He plays with
his humans and his doggy pal with enthusiasm.
Toby loves to get excited! Toby doesn't jump up but he runs around and
doesn't quite know what to do with his feet.. soo adorable! No matter
how stressful my day is he always makes me laugh with his greeting!
Toby loves walks, toys, rawhide chews and to cuddle up near a heater, in
his basket or cushion or near some warm feet!
Toby seems to love men (a little strange for a boy dog), as he is
besotted by his foster dad! Toby is not demanding but likes to hang
around you when you're doing housework or gardening.
Sadly, Toby suffers from a dry eye and sometimes his eye gets stuck
shut, poor thing. He doesn't cry or whinge though... he just walks up
to us trying to let us know we need to clean it just with some warm
water and a cloth.
He then gets a special eye ointment twice a day which he thanks you for
by giving you lots of kisses.
Toby is definitely a foster that has surprised me! He was a little
grumpy before but with some TLC he is trusting of us and is so
affectionate and sweet! Please call if you'd like further information on
this special boy.

Animal Number: 10114
Animal Name: Randy - On Trial (31/8/10)
Breed: German Spitz
Age: 7 years old
Randy has
recently come to stay with us after being found as a stray, but we do
know a little of his history thanks to his microchip. It seems he was
once a stud, yes, a breeding dog and is a German Spitz but we are
guessing he got a little too old for his 'lively' role and was retired
and then got 'lost'. Somewhere along the line he was also debarked so
has a hoarse voice these days that sounds a bit more like a howl than a
bark!
Randy is adorable. He is friendly, affectionate, good on the lead and
house trained, yes knows how to use the doggy door and uses it. He
likes to talk and chats happily either lying at your feet wherever you
sit patiently waiting or on your lap if you are able to hold him. He
would be best suited to someone who is home quite a lot as he loves
human contact.
He gets on with other dogs, cats, children and adults alike. He
would be best suited to someone who was home quite a lot as he loves
human contact.
Foster carer contact details: To find out more about Randy please call Catherine, Peter or Charlie on (02) 4957 3161.
The $300 adoption fee includes microchipping, vaccination, desexing, registration and a vet check.

Animal Number: 10116
Animal Name: Moo - On Trial (4/9/10)
Breed: Foxy x
Moo was
reluctantly signed over to the pound as her former owner was very sick
and unable to care for her properly anymore. She is an adorable little
lady, full of life and love who just needs to find a good and loving
home.
Moo has settled into her new foster home very quickly (she arrived
on 7 August). She seems to be house-trained, adores other dogs, plays
non-stop with her playmates, loves tug of war, chasing Buddy, our dog
and being involved in whatever is going on in the house at the time.
She can also sit and just be cuddled, she is a total softy. Moo likes
the idea of going for walks but is in fact scared of vehicles and sudden
movement from others around her which means she becomes a bit flighty
and is scared; with support and training she should get better though.
Moo is a softy who enjoys adults and children alike, she is quite
bouncy and very fast which is typical of a little Foxy. She would be an
excellent companion in an active environment where not left for too
many hours on her own. She is good with the cat and chickens too.
Foster carer contact details: To find out more about Moo please call Catherine, Peter or Charlie on (02) 4957 3161

Name: Maya - On Hold (6/6/10)
Breed: Labrador
Age: 9 years
Size: Small, 50cm at the shoulder
Suitable for children: There are no children at Maya’s foster home but she gets very excited when we walk past children at the local schools. From her reaction I think she would be very good with children.
Ideal home: A home where I can get a daily walk and have interaction with the family. Maya will make a great companion for her forever home. Maya has responded well to all dogs she has met.
A bit about me: I am an extremely friendly girl. I get along well with other dogs and could go to a home with another dog and get along with them quite easily. As a Labrador I will need regular exercise and a good diet. As Maya is getting a bit older she will need a family that is aware of her health needs. Although Maya is older she is still very active. She loves her walks and playing with toys. Maya sleeps outside (but would love to sleep inside). She knows how to sit and stays on her mat when asked to. She walks quite well on the lead. She is a very sweet girl at heart who is happy to be with you all the time even riding in the car.
From Maya's condition when coming into her foster home it would appear that she has been used for backyard breeding and kept in a cage/run most of her life. She has worn her front teeth off trying to get out. She does not chew anything at her foster home except toys. The vet has also given her the "thumbs up" for her health considering she acts half her age.
Maya's foster home is in East Maitland.
Foster carer contact details: Please contact Katherine on 0404 584028 if you are interested in further details about Maya. Please lease a message as foster carer is a shift worker.
Maya will be available to be adopted after the 14th of June.
If you would like to make a donation toward Maya's health please use the HAR bank details with the reference 'Maya'. All donations big and small greatly appreciated.
(Bank details can be found on the Special Needs page)

Name: Mai (Female) - On Trial (22/6/10)
Breed: Labrador
Age: 5 years
Children: I wouldn’t be suitable for young children under 5 years old as I may accidentallly knock them over.
Ideal home: One that will give me lots of love and attention, and will continue on my training.
A bit about me: I absolutely love pats and attention. I don’t mind sharing the backyard with the rabbit. I’m learning how to play fetch, but still haven’t worked out what I’m meant to do with the ball? I’ve also learnt how to sit and learning to sit and wait for my dinner. I will need more training and listen well when I know the reward will be a treat. I love walks and mummy said I’m slowly getting better. I love car trips and will happily lie in the back seat. I don’t think I will be a good guard dog because I hardly ever bark. I’m happy to sleep outside in my bed, but even happier to sleep inside.
If you are interested in Mai you can send an application form to Camille at this email or call 0404875505 (after 5pm on weekdays).

Name: Byron - On Trial (17/7/10)
Breed: Labrador x/Mixed breed
Age: 1 year old
Children: Byron is gentle around children and loves their
attention. However, due to his size he needs training to stop him
jumping up. Children under 5 might find him a handful however saying
that the grandchildren coped well with him.
Ideal home: One that will give him lots of love and attention
as he is a very cuddly young man.
A bit about me: When I was in the
pound all I did was cry, I hated it there as all I really want is a good
home to call my own. I am very affectionate, love cuddles and pats and
one of my favourite positions in all the world is to lie on my back
with my legs in the air and have a tummy rub - pure heaven!
I adore walks but don't get enough here. I am house trained but
have to sleep outside at night. I love coming in the house in the day
time though. I enjoy car rides and love the little foster family I am
staying with including the medium size dog, the little dog, the cat, the
chickens and birds, and I haven't tried to eat any of them! I am not a
barker, I don't really know how to fetch a ball and bring it back but I
am learning to play with Buddy, my doggy mate and that's really good
fun.
I am desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped and looking for a home to
call my own.
If you would like to meet Byron please call Cathy, Peter or
Charlie on 02 4957 3161.
Byron is staying in the Newcastle area of NSW.

Name: Livy - On Trial (17/7/10)
Breed: Staffy x
Age: 1 year old
Children: Livy's carer does not have children however her
reaction to the kids she has met and played with at the beach would
suggest she loves them! She is still quite 'puppy' in her mannerisms so
does chew and jump sometimes - I would recommend children over 10 or so
because she may accidentally knock smaller ones over.
Ideal home: A home with another playful dog would be ideal - Livy simply adores other dogs! Otherwise a home where she will get
plenty of walks and playtime and can get out and about quite often with
her owner.
A bit about me: Livy is such a sweet girl. She has a heart
of gold but can jump and chew your arms when she gets excited - she
really doesn't mean to though, she just wants to say how happy she is to
see you! This habit can be trained out of her - she barely ever does
it to her carer anymore, opting to parade her favourite toy around
instead.
She loves loves loves walks! Her favourite is anywhere she can get
off the lead to really stretch her legs and she just loves playing with
other dogs (horse shoe beach is a favourite!). She actually gets quite
hurt when a dog won't play with her - she just can’t understand why.
Livy also loves playing in the back yard. She would fetch, play chasey
and tug-of-war all day if you had the time! Without enough exercise
Livy can be a crazy ball of energy but if you put in the time to walk
her and play with her she is a completely different girl - lapping up
the tummy rubs and cuddles. She does need a lot of exercise, or another
dog to play with, but as an active person anyway I thoroughly enjoy my
walks and play time with Livy. I should mention that she walks well on
and off the lead, especially off as she needs to stretch her legs but
never goes far from you and comes when she is called no-matter-what.
She also loves the car, sometimes she just sits in it even when we're
not going anywhere!
She is a great guard dog, barking only when someone walks past - she
has never barked for attention. She happily spends most of her time
outside and comes in only when I am home during the day or to curl up on
her bed to watch some TV. She is house-trained but sleeps outside
because she just can't hold on all night - poor girl! She is very happy
with this arrangement and is often still sleeping when I get up to say
good morning!
Livy does not dig or jump fences but has been known to chew plants
if left alone all day without exercise. With a good morning walk and
enough food she seems to leave the garden alone. She comes when she is
called, stays still when putting her lead on and off and is
exceptionally well behaved and responsive on walks. She has most basic
manners around the house but does need reminding sometimes as she is
still quite puppy-like and her excitement can get the better of her. I
have had Livy for about one month now and in that time I have fallen in
love with her sweet nature and enthusiasm - her energy really is
infectious! She is a beautiful little girl who will make such a
gorgeous companion.
Livy is desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped, about 19kg in weight and
approx. knee height.
To meet Livy please call Sal on 0434230522 or send her an email

Ben - Medium-large blended breed - 6 months old male - On Trial (29/7/10)
Ben is everything
you could ask for - a cute, cuddly, mischievous bundle of joy. Just
waiting to chew his way into your life and heart. At 6 months old he
isn't a huge pup, he is just average size.
He is a mixed breed and the breed is a guess, the brindle could be from
greyhound, staffy, dane, almost anything, but they have a nice dark
nose, which could be mastiff, hound or dane.
It is a little hard to tell until he gets a little older, but I really
don't think he will be a huge dog like a dane, more a medium size like a
mastiff or greyhound.

Animal Number: 10126
Name: Eva - On Trial (13/8/10)
Breed: Bully x
Age: 20 months old
Size: Medium sized dog
Suitable for children: Yes, Eva is very gentle and does not jump up so would be less likely to knock small children over.
Ideal home: A home where Eva is allowed to be part of the
family and given the attention she needs would be perfect. Eva is a very
easy going dog but does not like to be left for long periods at a time
day after day. Eva gets along well with other dogs and could easily go
to a home with another dog.
A bit about me: Eva is a wonderful young lady who at first is
very timid but once she gets to know you she is quite happy to just be
with you. She is a very gentle girl who has already learnt basic
commands. Eva loves to swim and is always keen to play so going to the
beach will be no problem for Eva.

Animal Number: 10113
Name: Winnie - On Trial (29/8/10)
Breed: Kelpie x
Age: 3 years old
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Suitable for children: Will need to be watched with smaller children as she can get very excited and will jump upon greeting you
A bit about me: Winnie
is a beautiful medium sized dog. Winnie has a silky sleek coat and a
pretty face. She has very healthy teeth and eyes and will be vaccinated,
de-sexed and fully health checked prior to adoption. Winnie is thin but
has a healthy appetite and thriving in her foster home. She has had a
tender rear leg but that has improved considerably in last week. I have
no doubt that the first person to meet Winnie will take her home.
Ideal home: Winnie is a dog that will be suited to any social
environment. Winnie will suit either a family or single owner. Winnie
is a very affectionate dog that loves human company and has got along
very well with our border collie and would pose no threat to other dogs.
Winnie is a shy dog and at times a little timid, she responds to basic
commands, is easy to walk on a lead and would benefit from further
training. Winnie is as happy outside as she is inside and in our
experience is a quiet dog and does not dig, chew or chase washing.

Name: Lucky - On Hold (31/8/10)
Age: Approx. 2 years
Breed: Cattle x
Hi everyone! My name's Lucky and for some reason I have been in care
since last September and I really don't know why... My foster mum has
updated my profile several times, even gotten a professional
photographer to take pictures of me, made 2 video's of me, did some
training with me but yet I still have not had anyone come and visit me and see if they fall in love with me! Why?? :-(
So here we go again... My foster mum has done another doggy update for me.
Let's break it down for you...
- I happily sleep outside
- I love coming inside for playtime on my mat
- I LOVE my toys but I don't chew them to pieces!
- I love going on little trips in the car
- I love going for a daily walk on the lead
- I know how to sit, stay on the mat, stay for my toy, not to jump up and I'm working on not using my paw to say hello!
- I love to play "rough" and tumble
with other dogs but I am very respectful of my mum's 12 year old
Maltese dog and even though I desperately want to play with her, I
respect the fact that she is a moody old Grandma and I just let her tell
me off!
On my original profile I had "great with small and submissive dogs" but I
have since proven that I am quite okay with large dogs as well as long
as they are doggy friendly. I even had a trip to the last HAR doggy
event and did amazingly well! I found several dogs that I wanted to
just play, play, play with! There were others I could tell didn't want
to play so I just had a gooood sniff and kept walking and there was only
one or two undesexed male dogs who gave me a growl so I growled back -
that's only fair!! LOL
I sure hope this breaks it down for everyone and someone out there feels that I would be the perfect fit for their family.
