Rehoming PETS IN Newcastle, The Hunter and Central Coast regions

Hunter Animal Rescue expenses incurred during animal rescue.

Where does the adoption fee go?

All of the dogs that come into our care must be microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, council registered, wormed and treated for fleas, tested for heartworm and started on preventative treatment before going to their forever homes. The majority of dogs we receive into care, mostly from local pounds, have had none of this done. Added to that our volunteer foster carers provide a safe, loving environment, the collar and tag all foster dogs wear, as well as food and shelter, bedding, toys and treats for as long as it takes for the foster dog or cat to find the perfect forever home.

HAR dogs are adopted out to new families for $300 and as a not-for-profit organisation any part of the adoption fee not used for that animal is used to fund addition expenses for other animals. This could include treatment for skin problems, mange, allergies, teeth cleaning or additional surgeries. For example a single puppy that contacts Parvovirus, the cost of preventative treatment for its littermates is approx $150 per puppy, with the average litter coming into care being 5 puppies.

Of course some dogs come into care with some or all vet work done, the adoption fees for those animals contribute to the vet costs of animals that may come into care with medical conditions or become sick while in care.

Our volunteer foster carers are just that...volunteers, and although we think they deserve to be paid for all the effort and hard work that goes into caring for homeless animals they do it all for love. The adoption fee you pay when you adopt a dog from Hunter Animal Rescue helps us to continue doing the work we do. We recieve no government funding so we also welcome donations from adoptive families or members of the public to assist us in contining this very important work.

Remember, your precious new family member may have missed their chance at a happy life in a loving forever home if not for all the hard work of the Hunter Animal Rescue foster carers and volunteers.

Every little bit helps!
$5 donation will provide a small dog/puppy/cat with a month of flea treatment.
$10 is wormers for a litter of 4 puppies.
$20 will cover microchipping or a heartworm test
$40 will register a dog
$50 pays for a vaccination

$80 is the cost of desexing a cat

$100 almost covers the cost of a 5kg bucket of puppy formula

(enough to feed/supplement two litters of 8 and their mums)

If you've already adopted a dog or cat from us please consider a regular donation in honour of your new furry family member. We have rehomed almost 1000 animals and if every family that has adopted a HAR dog donated $20 on their pets birthday or anniversary, it would make a huge contribution to our running costs and allow us to continue giving great dogs and cats their second chance.
