Hunter Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers who dedicate their time to finding new homes for abandoned pets facing euthanasia. All animals are kept in foster carer homes, where they experience a good quality of life, and the carers get a good idea of a cat's personality and suitability for different homes.
All HAR cats and kittens are kept as strictly indoor / in enclosure pets to keep them safe from snakes, cars, dogs, fighting, hunting, straying and the harsh sun. All of our foster animals are very happy this way and we expect the same to occur in their new homes. |

Heidi and Wylee

HAR
number: C09241 and C09243
Names: Heidi and Wylee
Breed: DSH
Colour: Ginger and White
Age: 8 months
Heidi and Wylee are brother and sister and have been together all their life. We have tried to separate them with not very good results - they must be rehomed together.
They are very playful and loving, and love tochase each other around the house and play big time wrestling. They also love to cuddle up to their staff (ie carers) at night before retiring to bed.
Ideally a quiet home with no children would suit them as they are a little timid at first and will take a few days to settle in.

Missy is a friendly, playful cat. When she came into my care, with her 3 kittens (who have now found their forever homes),
she was very frightened. Now she loves to play and loves to have lots of pats. She would be suited to a family with no young children.

Monty
male
Animal Number: C09179
Name: Monty
Breed: DSH Ginger
Age: Approx. 2 years
Size: Small and athletic
Suitable for children: Unfortunately no.
Ideal home: A home where there is a single person or couple who are quiet and have at least one other kitty close to Monty's age and where he can go outside in a safe and enclosed area, like a balcony or porch.
A bit about me: Live in Nelson Bay and have been a foster carer since August 2009. We adopted 3 of our fosters and Monty is our 4th which we would adopt as well but really can't as we rent.
Suburb the foster animal is staying in: Nelson Bay (in Port Stephens)
Monty is featured here admiring the redheaded boy in the photo on the book cover. As a redhead himself he was naturally drawn to this photo. Red expresses fire, energy, the joy of being alive and verve. These are qualities everyone can admire and this is a cat that only a special person with similar traits will recognize. Monty is an enticing, unique little guy who once he gets to know you will fill your life with friendship, laughs and joy. He needs someone willing to be calm, gentle and take the time to get to know him. No kissing on the first date. He stayed under the guest bed in the bed room for the first 2 weeks but after a bit now sleeps on our bed and loves to be pet. He is great with other cats, but still a bit shy. We love Monty dearly and hope he will find a great home soon.
Monty is an absolute doll. He has a hilarious personality and gets all 3 of our kitties up to rollicking and racing about the house. He is very polite, gentle and loves to be patted. His last owner was a single young girl who had to work all day and he was left alone a lot of the time, never damaging any of her things. We have all new furniture and he does not scratch or claw it. When we first got him he spent a couple of weeks under the bed in the guest bedroom, but has since moved under the bed in our room. He is very shy and it takes him a bit to trust you and now we can walk by him and he falls on his back to be patted. He is sometimes a bit nervous still but if you just kneel down to his level he will come right up to you. He hates the vacuum cleaner!!!! I would not let him be adopted unless there was another young cat for him to play with. That is an absolute must in helping him to adjust to his new surroundings. We love and adore this gorgeous young prince and anyone who is lucky enough to befriend him will have a most loyal and adoring companion if you put the time in to win his trust.

Sabrina
female

Animal Number: C09275
Name: Sabrina
Breed: DMH - Beautiful black and white
Age: 1.5 - 2 years
Size: Medium
Suitable for children: Yes, however she needs time to adapt to new surroundings. Can be timid around new people.
Ideal home: Nice quiet home, where she will have the love she
deserves!
A bit about me: This beautiful girl came into care with 4 beautiful
babies who she looked after wonderfully. All but one have left home and
Sabrina too is now looking for a home to call her own.
I am a very beautiful natured princess who likes to keep to myself but will seek out attention when I want it. I'm not a climber or a lounge scratcher, nor do I whine for food. I am not a fussy eater. I like to spend most of the day sitting in a nice quiet spot occasionally coming over for a pat and the occasional cuddle. I am still quite shy of new people that come to visit but once I get to know you I am quite friendly.
Likes: Rubbing against my foster mums legs, purring, playing tumbles with my daughter Shelly (also on the Adult Cats page), watching movies with cats in them.
Dislikes: Loud noises.
Please note that thanks to a very kind public donation Sabrina can be adopted at a reduced rate to an elderly single/couple forever home.
Foster carer contact details: Send an email to Megan or phone 0422864998

Shelly
female

Animal Number: C09278
Name: Shelly (aka Lil' Pinny)
Breed: DSH - Tortie
Age: 8 months (DOB 17 Nov 09)
Size: Small
Suitable for children: Yes. Would need time to warm up to young children but once she is comfortable, she loves everybody.
Ideal home: Anywhere she will be loved and receive lots of pats!
A bit about me: I have recently come out of my shell at my foster home. I don't run and hide and have come to realise that I am safe. I sometimes still get a little scared when new people come over, but I come like it when they play with me. I am a very pretty and quiet little girl with a funny meow. My foster family think I'm silly especially when I walk around the house with my little yellow toy mouse. I am known to growl at anyone who even looks at my mouse sideways - nobody can take it from me when I'm playing! I am quite inquisitive and like to see what's going on around the house - I especially like to run over to the fridge when the door is open to have a look inside. If I'm not careful, the door will shut on me one day! I am a very good eater and am starting to get a bit of a pot-belly. Like my mum, I too am not a climber or a lounge scratcher like the permanent residents of the house!
Likes: The X-Files, looking at myself in mirrors, biscuits, playing with my toys, my mum, playing chase with my foster brother.
Dislikes: Loud noises and people making fun of my fluffy tail!
Please note that thanks to a very kind public donation Shelly can be adopted at a reduced rate to an elderly single/couple forever home.
Foster carer contact details: Send an email to Megan or phone 0422864998

Amalie
female - 7 months old

I am a very special cat. I am so playful and energetic, I
love playing with all of my toys. I have very unique ears, and piercing
eyes. I am okay with the young children at my foster home, so long as
they are gentle and treat me with care. My favourite spot to sleep is in
a dolls cot! I am great company and enjoy evening snoozes on the couch.
Even though I am small in size, I'm still suitable for a home with
small children if supervised. I am very affectionate like all cats
and love to play chasing games.
Amalie is being cared for in Macquarie Hills.

Kaleb
male - 8 months old - DOB 21/11/09

Hi, my name is Kaleb and I'm a playful, cheeky cat that loves to play with toys and race my foster mum up and down the stairs at my foster home.
I will eat pretty much anything and I'm a bit shy and tend to hide a lot with new people until I get to know you. I don't like being cuddled much but I'm more then happy to curl up next to you on the lounge and get lots of pats. :-)
I am toilet trained and come when I'm called most of the time. I also love to stretch my claws on the cat scratcher and have lots of cat naps.
If you would like to meet me you can contact my foster mum Sarah on 0434494656 or send her an email

Flanders
male

Animal Number: C10020
Name: Flanders
Breed: DSH
Age: Approx 6 months
Suitable for children: Not very young children
Ideal home: Flanders is a very special little fellow. He thrives on attention, always looking to curl up in your lap whenever you sit down. Interested in whatever you are doing and generally in whatever room you are.
He would suit a one cat household as he has a habit of eating more than his fair share of the grub!
He will need to be kept indoors and fed on Royal Canin Hypoallergenic biscuits due to food allergies. Any new foods introduced would need to be done in small amounts to determine suitability.
A bit about me: I am a bit shy with strangers but for my own special someone I will make you the centre of my world.
I get on well with dogs, and children if they are gentle with me. My foster mum tells me I am a special needs cat but doesn't a special needs animal like me deserve a home and family too?
Foster carer contact details: Contact Lynda on 0417 656 643 or send her an email
